High School Football: Bradford Runs Past Tremper

Indian Trail game cancelled

Bradford 48 Tremper 6

The Tremper v Bradford rematch had all the right variables to be considered a “trap game” for the Red Devils. They came into the game riding high on a three-game winning streak, they came into the game ranked in the Top 10 in the WIAA rankings for Division 1 and they looked to be the best team in the city. Yes, the stage was set for a “let down” game but the Red Devils were simply having no part of that. Bradford scored early and often and rolled up a ton of offense in the first half en route to a 42-6 halftime cushion. The 2nd half would see a running clock scenario employed and the final score read 48-6 Bradford.

The usual recap story regarding Bradford centers around two things….the Red Devils defense and the fact that they throw the ball at will…all over creation. Well, both of those constants were in play Friday night but it was the running game that would rule the evening for the Red Devils. “Ground and pound baby” was the only thing that needed to be said at halftime by co-offensive coordinator John Lynn as the Devils racked up about 3 miles of rushing yards before the break and cruised to victory. The “pass friendly” Devils racked up 350 yards via the run game and averaged a robust 9 yards per carry. This was straight-up smash mouth football.

Tremper once again fought hard in a losing effort. Senior QB Ryan McGonegle hit Preston Chamberlin with a dime that went for a score from 63 yards out for their offensive highlight of the evening. And when given a little time, McGonegle was able to find receivers and move the chains, but the Devil defense was once again very effective in not allowing their opponent to establish an offensive rhythm. Bradford’s d-backs were just outstanding. Mylan Smith, Jon Maack, Cade LaFond, and Christian and Tavy Crump seemed like they were everywhere….all night. Tremper never gave up as has been their calling card this year, they simply don’t quite yet have the horses to compete.

The Devils offensive successes were kinda spread all over the roster with Sophomore speedster Keany Parks getting a long TD run from 51 to pace a box score of 13 carries for 162 yards and 2 TDs. Also scoring were both of the aforementioned Crumps, Quinton Henry and Brock Lampe. By game’s end, Bradford had racked up a whopping 443 yards of total offense. Once again QB Nate Olson had a very solid game, throwing for 193 yards and three scores. This game was proof beyond much doubt that the Bradford Red Devils are very real and in this unique season full of variables, there is one thing for certain…the 4-1 Bradford Red Devils are a damn good football team.

Bradford Offensive Coordinators Brain Martinez and John Lynn discuss the success of the Devils offense as they racked up over 500 yards.
