This is “THE” Year

It sure looks good on paper….it always does. The Brewers, fresh off NOT winning another off-season, are ranked by every site imaginable, right back to 3rd in the Central and NOT making the playoffs. As I stated in my last Brewer piece, “Overlooked and Underrated as a Business Model”. And that would mean I’m talking about THE Year for a team no one expects to make the playoffs. I am. Could it not be THE Year? It could. It is likely. So, there is all the more reason to believe it can happen. The Crew is always picked 3rd in their shitty division. No one is afraid of the Cardinals anymore. The Reds are once again optimistic for greater things…and they are the Reds. And Pittsburgh is operating under a completely different business model. And that leaves the Cubs. I need a new paragraph for that.

It must be exhausting being a Cubs fan. You are the most loyal, hard-core fan base on the continent and you have history and an iconic ballpark. There is just little chance your team will ever meet expectations. And you got em again. You’ve grabbed our manager, and some coaches, even got Colin Rea, spent like a team with money, look pretty decent on paper and you all are still just hoping like we are. But with a ton more expectation. The Cubs will always be seen as legit. Having Counsell, spending enough on a big name here or there. The Brewers never have standing and will always have to fight just to be believed. Never underestimate that in terms of wins and losses.

And so the 2025 campaign begins. This 8-month war of attrition is at the starting line. The NFL is becoming flag football. The NBA has seen a 50% decline in viewership over the last decade and with all due respect, the NHL is still a niche market and always will be. It’s the Great American Pastime that now has the Con. The Crew open up against the Yanks and then home open against the Royals…some old-school opponents! And it appears there are still a few Opening Day Tix available. So fear not Brewers fans, being picked a solid 3rd, a couple games over .500 and missing the playoffs is a badge of honor. It means the good times are coming. And good luck Cubs fans…maybe your Milwaukee-south game plan will work…but don’t hold your breath…you ain’t hungry enough!
