HS Football WK3: Bradford Rolls Oak Creek

Other Local Teams Struggle

Bradford 35 Oak Creek 20

In life, we are aware of 3 “givens”….death, taxes, and you don’t go up to Oak Creek and punch the Football Knights in the mouth. Well. make that now two “givens”. Friday night the Bradford football team traveled to Oak Creek to see if they were the team that went toe-to-toe with Franklin in a week one L or the team that looked a little lost at the end of their victory over Tremper. Question asked, and question answered.  The Devils were by far the better, more athletic team on the field and cruised to a 35-20 victory over the Knights. If there had been the usual packed house there, they would have been stunned by what they saw.

After the game Head Coach Troy Bowe was obviously pleased with the team’s effort and discussed the focus of his team going in. “The kids felt they let one get away week 1 against Franklin. They believe in their talent level and wanted to show it tonight. The focus all week was to take advantage of the opportunity this time”. In a game that saw Bradford rack up 35 points, it was still a fantastic effort by the entire defense that was the key to this game. “Our D does a very good job of setting the tone”, said Bowe, who also calls the defense, “they are fast and make plays”.

Another testament to the overall quality of this group was highlighted by the fact that they scored in almost every way possible. They scored with a run, a pass, on defense (tipped ball turned in to a Pick6), on special teams (blocked punt returned for a TD) and they even threw in a safety. “I wish our FG attempt would have been good. Then we would have scored every way possible”. said Bowe, “the win % is very high when you score on D and special teams. The block at end of half was huge”.

So where does this win rank in terms of victories in the Troy Bowe Era at Bradford High School? “At the top. We have a lot of respect for Coach Joel and the Oak Creek program and we had not beat them in 3 previous tries. We are finally getting the program to where we want it. We have a long way to go but this is a good building block.” For the third consecutive week, Bradford was the better team on the football field. And for the second consecutive week, they ended up better on the scoreboard.

Franklin 50 Tremper 0

This one was over early. Franklin rolled into Ameche Field and made pretty quick work of The Trojans. The game went from kickoff, to 13-0 to 30-0 in a very short amount of time. Tremper is just not at that level yet. They are making strides to get there and many people are excited about what the future holds for the program…but you will meet some bumps in the road on your way to WIAA contention. Franklin did a pretty good job of showing Tremper what Tremper would like to become…a well rounded, well-disciplined, pass-centric powerhouse. As was the case last week in the loss to Bradford, Tremper was out there competing til the very end and that is a very strong positive to take away from a lopsided loss. The Trojans will get there, the hard work is in full cycle on the south side.

Racine Lutheran 35 St Joes 6

Racine Lutheran used the “ground and pound” running approach the best the Lancers Friday night. The Crusaders out-rushed St Joes 207 yards to 21 yards. The game was relatively close in the first with RL up 13-0 at the break. But two early rushing TDs for RL in the 3rd quarter put this one out of reach. St Joes was able to manage a late TD pass at the end of the game to hang a number on the scoreboard. RL is the class of the conference and the Lancers know where they need to try and get to in order to sit atop this division.
