Great “Fathers”

A New List

391

In Honor of some of the great “Fathers” of all time…I present for your discussion my Father’s Day “Father’s List”:

The Godfather – Simply stated, the greatest movie undertaking of all time. So many lines, so many scenes, the dialogue, the cinematography (gotta be the movie that term was invented to describe). I mean…it’s nothing personal, it’s just business.

Papa Was A Rollin’ Stone by The Temptations – Arguably the most underrated group of all time for my money. While this may not be my favorite Temps song, I never miss an opportunity to shout out a personal favorite.

Father Flanagan—Everyone could use a bit more patience and understanding with the Whitey Marshes of the world. By all accounts, and according to Spencer Tracy, Flanagan was that type of person.

My Father – A man who would seek no obligatory words, he was a provider first and foremost. Workman’s mentality to a fault, with a few byproducts attached. He sought simple respect and enjoyed simple pleasures.

Father Jerry – St Mary’s Legend! No Father List could possibly be considered legit without this man taking his spot among the greats. Great communicator, realistic, and Sunday Night Hoops was a game changer for many.

The Godfather of Soul James Brown – In all honesty, I never got him. Not really crazy about most of his songs or his act…BUT…if you line up all the people I do like who were influenced by him…that list is long as hell.

Socrates, The Father of Western Philosophy – I don’t get too deep in who developed what thought processes and when they did it…but I am a thinker, and I LOVED So-Crates Johnson in Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure. Geek!

Big Daddy Wood aka Wood_Don – A Don of significance. Easily one of the 4 faces on Mt Donmore. Teammate, Co-Host, Sunday date 17 weeks a year…father and friend. “Just get on board with the Big Daddy”

Father Time – Yes, it is a Catch-22 with this one. No one welcomes the inevitable battle, but with him, Father Time brings knowledge and maturity and appreciation.  And still undefeated, ha!

Happy Father’s Day to all!
